Marie Antoinette Costume

That post I did on the costumes in Pride & Prejudice got me interested in costume design in other movies. And of course, the first movie that popped into my head was Marie Antoinette. I found this amazing website about the costumes and costume design in the movie.

Highlights include:

Design sketches by costume designer Milena Canonero:

(Check out this interview to hear what Canonero had to say about the design process.)

Pictures from the Vogue shoot by Annie Liebovitz:

Close-ups of the fabulous shoes Manolo Blahnik designed for the movie:

This ended up being my favorite part of the website. Blahnik talked about designing the shoes, saying, "When the producers called, I dropped everything. When I was a boy, my mother read a Marie-Antoinette biography, and I have read Antonia Fraser's version. I can't wait to see it. They said 'make them sexy', but I wanted to do something very academic." He researched the original 18th century shoes before making these beauties.

Aaah, to be a young queen with beautiful clothes and shoes....

Having just watched the Madonna documentary Madonna: Truth or Dare before looking at all the beautiful costumes, I've had kind of an overload of fabulousness. Must go to bed.

To say I am obsessed with this movie is an understatement! I love everything about it and watch it every time I am feeling a little blue (but I usually turn it off before the rioting starts).

Gah! I adore the costuming in this movie tooooo much. One of my goals is to go as Marie Antionette (of course, with that Coppola spin) for Halloween.

if you think these costumes are great, then you'll love the attire in the latest installment of Elizabeth.

The costumes in this movie were amazing. Another movies u should watch is called Dangerous Beauty it is about a young venetian woman who becomes a a courtesan (whore)to support her family and be with the man she loves but can't marry. It's a bit sad and is rated R for nudity and content but the costumes are amazing and it's wort watching just for the costumes.

I'm sort of disappointed on how many people said they "loved the plot".

It's a true story, usually titled "The French Revolution".

But the costumes WERE amazing. If there wasn't the danger of receiving very odd looks, I might just wear those every day.

I just came across this by googling Rococo, and I would like to comment...

WTF?!
Marie Antoinette (and I mean the movie) was wrong in so many ways... Historically inacurate in so many ways! There was no affaire with Fersen! Both Fraser and Fersen's biogrophar said so, and I suppose they know best. Also, Fersen did not just 'leave' her, he kept contact rhough letters and they remained friends, as they had always been.
Coppola claims to have based the movie on truth, and it annoys me endlessly when people assume that it is truth. They skipped so much, it's just sad.
