Flawed Beauty

People are always saying "love your flaws" and "flaws are beautiful" and that kind of thing.

I like the idea, and I try hard to believe in it, but sometimes I don't buy it.

This picture of Irina Lazareanu (source) has me buying it:

She is not a classic beauty. She has these tiny, tiny lips, which look gorgeous on her even though big lips are normally considered more beautiful.

If she had big lips, I don't think she'd look as amazing, and she would definitely look less interesting. That double-take factor would be gone.

Just something to think about . . .

She looks great. And btw, big lips being considered beautiful wasn't always the case. 20 years ago they were thought to be ugly "fish lips."

Coco Rocha has the tiniest lips known to mankind...

wendyb- Hmm, really? I never knew that! As someone who has big lips, I guess I'm glad that it's not 20 years ago!

the clothes horse- True, true. Honestly, the only reason I chose to post about Irina was because I really love that picture of her and wanted to share.

I think big lips are very feminine and most guys love them;-)
You look great!

Oh yes, Kori....everyone acts like ideals of beauty are eternal, but 20 years ago Angelina Jolie would have been ostracized, not lauded, for those lips. Trust me! I was doing some research on "vintage" models recently and came across an old article talking about how bigger lips were suddenly hot. That's why you can't be too serious about whatever is the "attractive" look of the day because it is sure to change!

wendyb- Ha, that's interesting! I always knew that beauty ideals changed (very white skin was in until coco chanel made tanning popular, for example), but for some reason I thought that 20 years wouldn't be a long enough time for a real change in the way people thought about beauty.

I adore Irina... it's because she's so different and her appeal is in her personality! she's really something fun quirky and a total tomboy
