Let's Go to India

Lately I've been noticing how much more accessible Indian and Indian-inspired fashion is becoming. There was the launch of Vogue India, Disneyrollergirl is blogging about her experience as the fashion director of an Indian magazine, the Sartorialist is snapping fabulous style in New Dehli, Style.com profiled Bombay fashion in "India: A-Z,"and Indian fashion blogs are even popping up. Not to mention the countless Indian-inspired collections designers have shown in the past couple of years.

Well, I do love the rich fabrics and colors, the beautiful embroidery, and intricate jewelry that has come from across-seas.
I decided to do some experimenting with Indian-inspired looks, even though my wardrobe is pretty lacking in that kind of thing. But just wait 'til I travel to India some day - I plan to stock up!

Just came across your site. Pretty interesting how the fashion has spun towards Indian sarees. By the way, it is not hard to get a saree at all, depending on where you live. A lot of big Indian saree retailers have travelling sales at some hotel or big hall in town. And a lot of North American Indian women have way too many sarees that we can't possibly wear them all. I am sure someone is willing to give you one for a small price like $5.

Travelling to India is quite easy and cheap once you get there.
Have fun.

They make great use of tie-dye techniques in India. I went to an old shop the other day where they made intricate patterns just by tying little knots on the fabric. After dyeing and drying the ties are removed and you can find little sculptural forms /textures have formed in the fabric because of the binding. I saw some with little spikes! Usually they are ironed out though because they are only after the surface design.

londyn- Me too:)

giuseppe- Wow, that's so interesting!
